89 bags of adulterated fertilizer detected

     THE police in Niger State have intercepted a trailer laden with 89 bags of adulterated fertilizer belonging to one Salisu Mohammed
, 60 , of Dankanjuba in Kafuru Local Government Area of Katsina State .
    The truck with registration number XA 328 WRG was intercepted by a team of police operatives at Mariga market in Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State where the suspect planned to sell the commodity .
     Northern City News gathered on Thursday that each bag of the adulterated fertilizer was to be sold at N 5 ,500 to unsuspecting farmers in the Mariga council of the state .
    The command ’ s Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana , confirmed the arrest of the suspect , saying he had confessed to using some chemical substances to produce it .
Elkana said the suspect used ‘lanson and potash’ to produce the fake fertilizer “ so that farmers will not have bumper harvest. ”
     The spokesman also said that the suspect told the police that he produced the fertilizer in connivance with one Alhaji Shuaibu of Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State .
Elkana advised farmers to be careful when buying fertilizers in the market.
He said the suspect had been arraigned in court .
   The command also said on Thursday that it had arrested one Umar Kudu of Sabon Gida Bida in Bida Local Government Area for rape.
Kudu was reportedly trailed and arrested by a team of policemen , Elkana told Northern City News in Minna , Niger State capital .
    Elkana said the suspect was arrested for raping a 14 -year old girl in an uncompleted building in his area.
     He said the victim had been taken to the hospital for medical examination .
The spokesman said police operatives also arrested suspected armed robbers terrorising some parts of the state .
    Following a tip - off , the operatives arrested Shafiu Umar , Islam Shehu, Idris Danladi , Kabiru Adogo and Iliya Salihu for stealing N 55 , 000 and a motorcycle belonging to one Shaibu Danladi of Tunga Hassan in Paikoro Local Government Area .
Elkana said during the operation that a motorcycle was recovered from suspects , adding that all the suspects would be prosecuted on conclusion of investigations .reporter okonne anita
